Jessica Lange wins Kirk Douglas Award

Two-time Academy Award-winning actress Jessica Lange won the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film last Sunday at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

The 65-year-old leading lady's friends, including Kathy Bates, Demi Moore and Ryan Murphy gathered at the Bacara Resort and Spa in the American city of Santa Barbara to celebrate Lange's extraordinary career.

Lange is the first woman to win this honor for her multitude of achievements on big and small screens.

Lange made her professional film debut in the 1976 remake of the classic movie King Kong. In 1982, she became the first performer in 40 years to win two Oscar nominations within the same year.

At the prize-giving ceremony, she said she has never cared too much about being a "celebrity" in the film industry.

"I think it's just the idea of making, of understanding that the work is more important than anything else, all the other stuff that comes with it. It's actually the acting that is the only thing that matters," Lange said.

"And you know my family. I've had this amazing family that has tagged along with me throughout all of this. That's made all the difference in the world," she added.

After winning two Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries, Jessica Lange has become a staple to the hit show American Horror Story. In the series, Lange played an eerie housewife, a remorseful nun, a powerful witch and a circus manager.

Roger Durling, executive director of the film festival, spoke highly of Lange's refined performance.

"When you look at her career and the choices she made, she is extremely groundbreaking and uncompromising. In American Horror Story, it's a groundbreaking role for a woman," said Roger Durling.

Dazzling and dynamic, Lange has contributed her skills to a wide range of performances. Her peers are not only celebrating her work, but also her uniquely individual traits that have allowed her to seamlessly navigate the industry.
